Is it Time for Wheel Alignment?
As the miles add up on your daily driver there is a good chance that it is going to require a wheel alignment at some point. Proper alignment is critical to the safety and reliability of your commute, as a car with improper alignment is going to get reduced fuel efficiency and be difficult to control.
There are many things that can throw a vehicle's wheels out of alignment, including normal wear and tear. However, an impact with curb or pothole, or a larger accident, can also result in alignment issues. If you notice any of the following problems be sure to reach out to your local auto repair shop for further diagnostics and proper service.
One of the most common signs of poor wheel alignment is if the vehicle continuously pulls to the left or right. You may experience hard pulling, which is when you basically need to fight the steering wheel to keep the car moving in the direction you want it to, or soft pulling, when it seems as if the car or truck drifts lightly to one side. In either case you will want to have the alignment checked out, as this is a dangerous problem, as it prevents you from properly controlling your vehicle.
Shaking Steering Wheel
Another common issue you may experience if it is time for a wheel alignment is a shaky steering wheel. This will occur because the vehicle is essentially trying to go in two different directions at once, since one tire is not pointing in the same direction as the others. Again, this is a safety concern that should be addressed immediately.
Uneven Tire Wear
If you notice either of the above problems then it is likely you'll also encounter strange tire wear patterns. Alignment issues can often cause trouble for your tires, which is money out of your wallet if the problem is taken care of quickly.
