Common Auto Parts that Require Replacement

car-battery

Cars and trucks are made up of hundreds of different parts that work together to make the vehicle run safely and reliably. However, during routine maintenance, some of these parts need to be replaced at certain mileage points to ensure that the vehicle does not suffer from decreased performance or other problems. In fact, if some of these parts aren’t replaced, your vehicle may not be able to run at all. Here are a few of the car parts that need replacement most often.

Air Filter

The air filter is responsible for removing impurities from the incoming oxygen that is mixed with the gasoline in the combustion chamber. If dirt and dust made it into the engine it could cause damage, or even ignite a fire under the hood. A dirty air flow can result in increased fuel consumption, so be sure to replace it as necessary.

Fuel Filter

If the fuel filter becomes clogged, it could prevent the proper amount, or any, gas from getting to the combustion chamber, meaning your car isn’t going to run right or at all. This is a cheap and easy filter to replace on most vehicles.

Battery

Just like the batteries in your TV remote, a car battery will eventually die and need to be replaced. Most automotive batteries last between two and five years, depending on the brand and type.

Spark Plugs

Spark plugs are what ignite the air and fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. They are fed an electrical charge which causes them to spark, leading to the tiny explosion inside the engine. If the spark plugs become corroded they could misfire, leading to a poor running engine.

Fluids

Your car uses a number of special fluids to operate. From time to time the fluids need to be drained and refilled to ensure that they are free of contaminants, a service known as a fluid flush. Commonly, a vehicle will need a coolant flush, power steering fluid flush transmission fluid flush or brake fluid flush.
