Keeping Up with Scheduled Auto Maintenance

If you want your car or truck to provide you with years of reliable and safe transportation it is important that you complete factory scheduled maintenance as it becomes necessary. Each car has a different maintenance schedule, which you can find inside the owner's manual. Keeping up with these services will help prevent breakdowns that result in costly repairs, so be sure to never put off these critical maintenances.

Oil Change

The most frequent service that your vehicle will require is an oil change. Most cars and trucks need an oil change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Fresh oil ensures that the engine is properly lubricated, thus preventing harsh friction between the moving parts under the hood.

Timing Belt

If your vehicle is equipped with a timing belt it is crucial that you have it replaced as called for by the service schedule. Not replacing the belt could allow for it to snap, which can cause massive damage to the engine.

Transmission Service

Routine transmission service is necessary to keep it shifting smooth. This type of maintenance includes draining the old transmission fluid, removing and cleaning the transmission pan, replacing or cleaning the transmission filter and reinstalling everything and adding new fluid.

Fluid Flush

The fluids used by your car need to be drained and refilled from time to time to ensure they are free of contaminants, this is called a fluid flush. At some point, most vehicles will require a brake fluid flush, transmission flush (see above), coolant flush, power steering flush and differential flush.

30/60/90K Services

Many other services are conducted during 30,000 mile check ups that most cars are scheduled for. During these appointments a vehicle may undergo a safety analysis, computer diagnostics, receive new components and a variety of other services to keep the car running great.

Tune Up

If your car is between scheduled services but isn't running quite right then it could be time for a tune up. Tune ups generally consist of small, affordable services to restore performance, such as installing new spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter or conducting a fuel injection unit cleaning.
